Is it time to rethink your email policy?

Written by Chris Bedel | Dec 5, 2017

As we enter the holiday season many employees and co-workers will be looking at their inbox to check the status of all those packages due to arrive and all those deals that just can't be passed up. The trouble is if they are viewing their personal email on the corporate network it could be a recipe for disaster.

So what are some basic steps that can be taken to reduce this risk?

  1. Don’t allow personal email on your network. With everyone having a smartphone these days, it may be easier to just tell employees to keep personal email off the network.
  2. Determine if SSL inspection is available on your network, or see what it would take to implement that feature.
  3. Educate your staff. Regardless of whether you do both or neither of the previous two suggestions, this is a must. User awareness of the risks of email is so important to combat this threat that it should be a part of every information security training program.

If you are in need of assistance educating your staff we administer year-round cyber awareness testing and training to many of our clients because even one click is one click too many. For more information on this service email us at Support@bedelsecurity
